DNA eWorkshop: Integrated Tools

Are you ready to do more with your DNA results? This workshop is for the INTERMEDIATE genetic genealogist who wants to analyze and evaluate their DNA matches to find new cousin connections. The workshop covers clustering, triangulation, and other relationship finding techniques.

 

Over the course of three webinars (6 hours), you’ll learn how to use tools on GEDmatch and DNA Painter to evaluate your DNA results, create plausible paths of relationship, and begin to identify how your matches relate to you and each other.

Each week will begin with a lecture then allow for time for your questions. The workshop will end with practical assignments to practice what you learned that you can report on the following week. Participants will also have access to Andy Lee, during the week, for additional assistance on their assignments.

Each week will have a 2-hour webinar.

Week 1 - Preparing to Cluster

  • Organizing and Correlating DNA Information

  • Mapping out family’s DNA

  • 1D Clustertering - Leeds Method/Color Clustering, Shared Match Clustering

  • Intro to DNA Painter

​

Week 2 - Utilizing Clusters

  • 2D Clustering - Genetic Affairs, MyHeritage, GEDmatch

  • 3D Clustering - adding shared cM to enhance cluster

  • Painting matched segments

​

Week 3 - Finding Unknown Relationships

  • Triangulation

  • WATO

  • Relationship Logic Puzzles

The lecture is recorded live and participants can ask their questions anytime during the recorded session. Andy will incorporate the questions throughout the learning period.

​

Homework assignments will reinforce principles taught each week. You will use your DNA results to complete the tasks and further your research.

​

For those who can not attend live, Andy Lee will respond to questions emailed pertaining to your research through the following year.

How to Register

  • The eWorkshop is open to anyone with an internet connection who is ready to have fun while learning!

  • Click the Register Now button, you will then be taken to a PayPal page to pay the registration fee. 

    • The Payee is FHF Group LLC.

    • You can use PayPal or a credit card if you don't have a PayPal account.

    • International attendees who cannot pay through the PayPal portal should email us for a different payment service.

  • After payment has been completed you will be taken to the Complete Registration page.

    • Click on the Complete Registration button. 

    • Enter your name and the email address you would like to use to communicate during the course. This email can be different from your PayPal account. 

  • Email reminder series:

    • You'll receive reminder emails so you don't miss the live event. 

    • A week before the conference, you'll receive handouts delivered to your inbox. 

    • The day of the conference you'll receive a link to the live stream. 

    • After the last session, you'll receive a replay link that is accessible until December 31, 2020. 

  • Participate Live:

    • Ask any questions and leave comments throughout the workshops.

    • Andy will incorporate them during the presentations and at the end during the Q&A portion.
